We'll organize group transfers between Casertavecchia, Naples Airport, and Caserta train station at the beginning and at the end of the wedding weekend (on Saturday, Sept. 7th, and Monday, Sept. 9th).
If you would like to use this option, please let us know when confirming your attendance, and we'll reach out to you to confirm your arrival/departure times and plan accordingly.
The closest airport is the Aeroporto Internazionale di Napoli (NAP). It's quite a nice airport outside of Naples – not too big, but with many connections, including direct flights to Hamburg and Berlin.
When flying from outside the EU/Shengen area, please keep in mind that your passport should be valid for at least 3 months after the date you intend to leave the EU and it must have been issued within the last 10 years. For American passport holders, there are no additional visa requirements for entering Europe.
There were plans to introduce a travel authorization system (ETIAS), but its introduction has been postponed to 2025.
If you're driving to Casertavecchia, we suggest parking your car at Villa Hirta for the ceremony and reception, as the inner part of the historical town is a limited traffic zone (in Italian: Zona a Traffico Limitato, or ZTL). If you're staying at Hotel Caserta Antica, you'll also have the possibility of parking there free of charge.
Useful Addresses:
• Villa Hirta: Via Provinciale per Casertavecchia, 81100 Casola (CE)
• Hotel Caserta Antica: Via Tiglio 75, 81100 Casertavecchia (CE)
Estimated driving times
• Casertavecchia – Naples International Airport (1 hour, 40km)
• Casertavecchia – Caserta (30 minutes, 11km)
• Caserta – Naples International Airport (35 minutes, 30km)
Please keep in mind that the driving times are purely indicative: especially during rush hours, there can be significant traffic slowdowns along the main traffic arteries (especially in proximity of the airport and outside of Caserta), so plan your travel times accordingly.
Renting a car
If you're planning to rent a car for the duration of your stay, please be mindful of the required documents:
• European driving license or an International Driving Permit
• A credit card for the cautionary deposit. Debit cards and cash deposits are never accepted in Italy for car rental.
There are several rental companies with offices at the Naples Airport or near Caserta train station. We suggest using any car rental price comparison website (Kayak, Booking, etc.) to compare offers and find the best deal for your trip.
Caserta is very connected to the rest of Italy through its train station (Stazione Ferroviaria di Caserta, often stylized as Caserta FS) in the center of the town. Trains are the most reliable and cost-effective form of public transportation in the area.
The high-speed trains head north, such as to Milano and Roma, and connect to southern Italy, such as Bari and Benevento. Although slower, the regional trains connect to all over the region, such as Naples and Salerno.
Train companies
Trenitalia is the former monopolist and main train provider: it provides most regional connections, but also faster inter-regional (Intercity and Frecciargento) and high-speed trains (Frecciarossa).
Italo is the other alternative provider of high-speed trains, with very similar prices, frequency, and level of service compared to Trenitalia.
For long-distance travel, it's advisable to just check both websites for offers and pick the one that has the best price and most convenient schedule for your trip.
Some popular destinations:
• Milano Central (3x/day, 4-5 hours)
• Roma Termini (4x/day, 1-2 hours)
• Bari Centrale (3x/day, 3 hours 30 minutes)
• Benevento (3x/day, 50 minutes)
• Napoli Centrale (hourly, 50 minutes)
• Salerno (hourly, 1 hour 10 minutes)
Timetables change seasonally, so make sure to check in advance on the respective provider websites for up-to-date information.
Tickets
For long-distance travel, it's advisable to book your tickets online well in advance on the website of your train provider of choice, as they work with assigned seats and prices are significantly discounted for early bookings.
For regional connections, prices are fixed and there are no seat assignments. Tickets can be purchased for the same price either online or at the vending machines at the train stations.
Since this year, some new public bus routes have been established by Aircampania to connect the Naples Airport to Caserta, and Caserta to Casertavecchia.
Buses are not very frequent and might not be very punctual, so we wouldn't recommend them as a means of transportation when time is of the essence, but they're an additional option for those who want to move around independently.
Relevant bus lines (schedule):
• Caserta ↔ Casertavecchia (line 05-UC)
• Caserta FS (train station) ↔ Naples Airport (line 10-UC)
Tickets: usually can be bought at newsstands and bars close to the bus stop and cost a few euros. Map of the ticket sale points.
For longer trips, Flixbus offers connections to several Italian cities and has a stop in Caserta close to the train station.
The wedding party will spend the weekend (Saturday – Monday) directly in Casertavecchia. We welcome you to join us and explore this wonderful medieval town and the events we have planned.
Casertavecchia offers several boutique hotels and B&B options for a comfortable stay during the weekend without the need to drive. We recommend booking early, though, because September can be a busy period and the availability of rooms in the old town is limited.
If you would like to stay in Campania for a longer vacation, we recommend that you use Caserta as your hub, as it is very well-connected to the train networks.
We have selected a few options for you below, but feel free to find the type of accommodation that best suits your trip and travel style on Booking, Airbnb, or other similar websites.
Our only recommendation, when looking for your accommodation in Caserta, is to select an option within walking distance from the train station if you don't plan on driving.
The train station is very close to the town center and will be our main point of reference in the city for the transfers on Saturday and Monday and any group visit.
